I’m inspired by the thought that there is still so much left to discover about life and the universe we live in. I’ve represented this in the form of sweets!
What Makes You Happy?
Drawn on the paper bag that my food came in on arrival to university, ‘What Makes You Happy?’ is a disaster in crayon, pastel, biro, pencil and probably some mud from the Downs, where I drew most of it. From left to right, there is a self portrait indicating that one of the few ways I was getting serotonin last term was living vicariously through a Minecraft pumpkin farm. Next, there is a monk character that recurs in my art symbolising hope and calmness. They are much needed. A biblical angel is the next figure, he’s a pretty cool guy. Finally, we have a celestial worm thing inspired by a friend’s birthday cake. It made me smile, so I thought I’d whack it on there. The chicken is a reference to Slap The Chicken, a science podcast I started last November which I’ve been having a lot of fun with (this is a threat). To his right, there is my attempt at expressing the feeling of seeing a bat on campus. I like it when that happens. Some of my favourite Greek letters and a Python foot destroying the genuinely horrible part of my brain that I can’t fend off with glib jokes top off the image. I would say it’s related to Physics through Chaos, Python, Greek Symbols, Lasers, Flying, Compressing Forces, and Quantum Physics, in that parts of it make very little sense.
Valenstein
My dog, whose second name is Valentine, and Albert Einstein both inspire me because of their problem solving ability and intuitive understanding of people. Einstein noted that “Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth” My dog seems to agree with this…
Awakening
Reaching into the space of our mind where other dimensions exist and pull us like muses into another world.
Pottery painting
Finished pottery with a snapshot of water splashing upwards.
Pottery painting
Painting of stars and planets on pottery. The mug hasn’t been put in the oven to seal the paint yet. Once it’s backed, the colours will turn darker.
Doorway to Laughter
Humour has many levels and so does life. Humour makes me feel like we can go beyond our little ways and invigorate life’s many ways of thinking. It never fails to inspire and help me lift up my focus. I saw this door in Nottingham and took its picture to remind me of the clown in us all.
Learn to be patient with yourself
How many times you’ll be able to behave with others but not with your self? Toooo many times..! Yourself is the first person you should care about, you are not selfish on doing that, it is called self-care… that inspiring me on making this artwork that is also a good reminder..! My favourite way of doing art is by using recycled materials. Canvas is an old white board while colour are my old nail polish.
One reality, different perceptions
Panels show images of my dog’s rainbow snuffle mat as he and I see it. We both love it, and one another, despite seeing the image in totally different ways. We are united, rather than divided, by our different perceptions of the rainbow spectrum ?
A school with a view
A winters day that cannot fail to impress while at work
Rising
Phoenix bird artwork from the ashes, representing a metaphor of reviving the person from an illness or old self and becoming a beautiful born again spirit often referring to the sun in ancient times.
Mind In Bloom
A brain depicting the flowing connections of neuroplasticity and the myriad connections of the brain like a flowering garden- a mind in bloom.
